Western Arthur's Range Traverse is a circuit route that starts and finishes at Scott's Peak Dam (4 hours drive from Hobart) near the southern end of Lake Pedder deep in the heart of Southwest National park. Depending on the weather conditions and your experience level you have a few options when attempting the Western Arthur's Range from the western end (Moraine A):
Scott's Peak Dam to Lake Cygnus: 3 days return walk from Scott's Peak.
- Scott's Peak Dam to Lake Cygnus (18km, 10 hours) if starting early in the morning
- Scott's Peak Dam to Moraine A Camp (6 hours, 12km) if starting around lunchtime
- Scott's Peak Dam to Junction Creek (4 hours, 9.5km) if starting late in the afternoon
- Return to Scott's Peak Dam
Scott's Peak Dam to Lake Oberon: 4-5 days return walk from Scott's Peak.
If leaving Scott's Peak Dam early in the morning:
- Scott's Peak Dam to Lake Cygnus (18km, 10 hours)
- Lake Cygnus to Lake Oberon (6km, 5 hours)
- Return to Scott's Peak Dam with an overnight stay at Lake Cygnus or Junction Creek
If leaving Scott's Peak Dam early at lunch time:
- Scott's Peak Dam to Moraine A Camp (12km, 6 hours)
- Moraine A Camp to Lake Oberon (12.5km, 9 hours)
- Return to Scott's Peak Dam with an overnight stay at Lake Cygnus or Junction Creek
If leaving Scott's Peak Dam late in the afternoon:
- Scott's Peak Dam to Junction Creek (9.5km, 4 hours)
- Junction Creek to Lake Cygnus (8.5km, 6 hours)
- Lake Cygnus to Lake Oberon (6km, 5 hours)
- Return to Scott's Peak Dam with an overnight stay at Lake Cygnus or Junction Creek
Westerns Arthur's Range Traverse via Moraine A-K: the most popular circuit route from Scott's Peak which descends the range via moraine K. It takes 7-9 days.

- Lake Oberon to High Moor (4km, 8 hours): very difficult, dangerous and rough section
- High Moor to Haven Lake (3.5km, 6 hours): the toughest section of the range including the Beggary Bumps
- Haven Lake to Junction Creek via Moraine K
- Junction Creek to Scott's Peak Dam

- Promontory Lake to Lake Rosanne (9.5km, 5-7 hours)
- Lake Rosanne to Cracroft Crossing (5km, 3-4 hours)
- Cracroft Crossing to Junction Creek
- Junction Creek to Scott's Peak Dam
It is also possible to access the range from the eastern end (from Cracroft Crossing on the Huon and Arthur Plains Track, or from the Pass Creek) as well as from the southern ridges, this should be however only attempted by the most experiences parties.
